Some members of MEISA had this to say about a band with an aggressively ferocious name and even more aggresively cool sound:
"Let’s Go To War is an electro-rap/hip hop group from Toronto, Canada. The trio is formed by DJ Cirkut and Sonny Genuis, both producers, and Peter-John, rapper. This energetic group’s music always causes a stir, especially since they are the latest musicians to experiment with the new electro-hop craze. In August of last year, Let’s Go To War released their debut album Karmageddon on Last Gang Records. The band really got people talking in 2008 with their hit track "Burning Down the Disco." The positive feedback from fans and the band’s hard work landed them tour dates with prominent acts such as MIA and Santogold, and a chance to produce a track on Britney Spears’ latest album.
Karmageddon had been anticipated by many of their fans, and features many different influences in addition to electro. Peter-John, lead rapper, has said of the album’s format, “…[we] gave you a little more than electro, we're after classics! Some violins, horns, pianos... real shit, and yes, a little dirty mofo electro!!!”
Karmageddon opens with their hit track "Burn Down the Disco," which really shows off the danceable electro sound the group is known for. However, their last track, "Maybelline," is a total 180-degree turn from their electro-hop roots. "Maybelline" is a slow love ballad with no rapping or big beats, which leaves the album on a surprisingly sentimental note. In between, listeners can look forward to soon-to-be favorites such as "Don’t Love Me, Push Up Ya Lighta!," and “The Whole City’s Got A Cold.” What makes Karmageddon a must have album is the diversity of sound. One might expect the big beat, electro pop songs, but the album surpasses expectations by offering unanticipated twists. The boys from Let’s Go To War illustrate influences from rap, reggae, rock, folk, alternative, disco, all while keeping their “mofo” electro. Fans of all types of music can appreciate Let’s Go To War, so check’em out!"
